There’s a single Lululemon Black Friday deal that required no thought whatsoever before I added it to my cart. I’d actually already purchased it earlier in the year when I wasn’t looking for anything that was non-yoga attire. But I caught a glance of it and, even though it wasn’t at all what I thought I needed, I snatched it off the rack and headed straight to the changing room. My only debate before buying it was whether or not to wear it out of the store.
It’s the Lululemon Nulu Slim-Fit High-Rise Skirt (originally $78). It’s made from the same uber lightweight yet compressive Nulu fabric as some of the brand’s leggings that I’ve been crushing on the last year. As the skirt’s name implies, it boasts a slender cut and a reinforced high waistband. Not only is it exceptionally comfortable, it hugs your curves but doesn’t make you gasp for your breath. The elegant pencil cut hits several inches beneath the knees and the back slit makes walking a cinch. And it rolls into almost nothing so you can easily tuck it in your bag and change into it at the yoga studio after class. And it literally feels as though you’re lazing around in your fave yoga leggings.
Although the skirt was modestly discounted earlier this weekend, it just dropped down to $39.

Earlier this year, I’d already purchased a second identical skirt, also in black, as backup. And I’m about to purchase a third. Not only for the comfort but the silhouette the design creates. I didn’t want to take it off that first time in the changing room. And, quite honestly, I still don’t. Literally not a week goes by when I don’t wear it several times.
The first time I wore it out running errands, a woman I was walking past in a parking lot drew a little silhouette of me in the air with her finger, nodded, grinned, and mouthed the word, “Beautiful.” Another time I was on a grocery run before work and an older gentleman laughed and said, “You look like you were just dancing!” And the other day I was crossing the street and a woman with a lovely yet different sense of style than myself shouted, “I love your outfit!”
Each of those instances, I teamed it with another of my staples, the Lululemon Wundermost Ultra-Soft Nulu Spaghetti-Strap Cami Tank Top, also in black ($48). Together, the outfit is as versatile as your closet and works equally well with a high-end cardigan or a vintage faded flannel or a cropped puffer coat. And it looks as elegant with flip-flops as it does strappy heels. It also washes without fading whether you toss it in the machine or soak it in the sink.
We all know that true confidence and beauty and self-worth arise from within. But every once in a while, something unexpectedly finds you that amplifies the version of yourself in your head and helps you feel even more like, well, you. For me, it’s this skirt.
